The Mexicutioner

Pacquiao - Diaz Fight Result

Manny “the Pacman” Pacquiao has won the World Boxing Council Lightweight Title over the bigger, but slower David “the Dangerous” Diaz in Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas.

This made Pacquiao the only Asian, and the only Filipino to hold 4 boxing Championship titles in 4 different weight divisions. The fight result was devastating to David Diaz, who expected an upset win over Pacquiao through brawl and close quarter slug fest.

Thus, Manny Pacquiao earned several tags to himself by defeating all great Mexican boxing champions, the likes of Juan Marco Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Miguel Marquez, Jose Larios and just added the United States-based David Diaz. Pacman is called the Mexican Destroyer, the Mexican Killer, the Mexicutioner.

So who’s next? Will Ricky Hatton give Manny Pacquiao a great fight soon?

Chained Freedom

Chained Freedom

For a century and a decade of independence,

Illusions of freedom, abound his frayed mind;

Longing for self respect, equality and justice,

Indeed after all these years, are hard to find;

Pompous public heroes, his leadership governs,

Insurmountable wealth, their service ends;

No true progress, no worth the pains,

Other than dreaming of liberty and freedom, in chains.

The Great Disparity

Music of the RichEven Pareto Principle is rendered inapplicable,

The Philippines is an exception to the 80-20 rule.

Its wealth, 80% of it is in the pockets of a handful,

84 families, less than a hundred got ‘em all.

Common things between the Philippines and Italy

My blogger friend, Michael, from Australia, posted on his blog a very funny video he pulled out from YouTube. It is a cartoon video showing the what makes Italy different from the rest of Europe. What made it very interesting is the ‘odd’ similarity between Italy and the Philippines, on various things presented in the video.

Whether Italians confirm those or not, I can’t deny the fact that I can very well relate those in the Philippines. Except for the language, seems everything are so true…

Enjoy!

Musings from my inbox: Funny Pinoy Stuffs

Pen and notebookI got this email from a friend who is now working in Singapore. I know I have read similar of this stuff before, but still, it couldn’t keep me from laughing thus making my Monday blues go away. And it made me take some nice break from my usual blogging and spending sleepless nights setting up my new free blogging site.

Warning: Some words and statements maybe harmful to some people. Read at your own risk. For complaints, go check your doctor.

I have posted the message “verbatim”.

This is soooooo amusing!!!and humiliating at the same time because its true…Oh well, part of our “survival tool” is laughter ….so have a good laugh…

When I travel, people often ask me why I live in the Philippines ? Well here it is…..

It is the only place on earth where…

1. Every street has a basketball court.

2. Even doctors, lawyers and engineers are unemployed.

3. Doctors study to become nurses for employment abroad.

4. Students pay more money than they will earn afterwards.

5. School is considered the second home and the mall considered the third.

6. Call-center employees earn more money than teachers and nurses.

7. Everyone has his personal ghost story and superstition.

8. Mountains like Makiling and Banahaw are considered holy places.

9. Everything can be forged.

All that I bleed still rocks

Okay. I am a rock fan. And my post today is all about my most favorite rock song from Savatage. Perhaps some still remember this great rock band. All That I Bleed for me is the best rock song ever written. Criss Oliva with brother Jon wrote this song.

In most of the recent tours of Savatage, this song is always sung as a tribute to Criss, who died a long time ago in a car accident. Still Criss and Jon are the only people who can truly sing this beautifully. None of the new Savatage vocals could perform closer.

I still play this song at home with my keyboard or guitar. The melody is eclectic. The lyrics are awesome. I invite you to listen for a moment.

WPP Gives Back Contest

WPP Pinoy BloggersWhen I started this blog, my first blog 5 months ago, I had no idea about blogging, and how to use the WordPress blogging platform. My friend just told me that WordPress is the best blogging tool so I signed up an account. The logical thing I did was to Google on people using it, especially those people close to home.

It was through it that I found WordPress Pinoy Users Group (WPP). I didn’t know anyone from the group, except for Chuckie, the group’s moderator I supposed whom I recognized as that budding young Philippine actor I used to watch on TV when I was little kid :-) . He grown up a bit, face now more mature, but upon browsing at some of his photos on his blog, easily I recognized him being that great Chuckie Dreyfus.

At first I thought WPP was an exclusive group, limited only for the people they knew and pro bloggers at that, but I was wrong, Chuckie sincerely welcomed me to the group. It was through WPP that I discovered even more Filipino blogs and bloggers: mevrouw [e], MissyMisyel, Thou Shall Not Fail, Unwritten Thoughts, including Iris, mitchteryosa, annie_thejourney, Kristine Sendy, malensky, and of course JoanJoyce and Manilenya.

Every new Filipino blogger I get to stumble daily using the WPP Link Love helped me discover the beauty of blogging, and slowly, I started to appreciate it and learned a lot from those blogs.

Bayani Fernando and the 2010 Presidential Elections

It is no doubt that Bayani Fernando is one of those rare politicians and government officials who got ‘political will’ when its all about implementing the rules. As a Marikina resident, we owe it all to BF and his successor, wife Marides Fernando why Marikina is considered to be one of the greenest cities and most livable cities in Asia.

But lately, it seems BF has lost touch with what he used to believe and practice - a no non-sense, apolitical politics - if there is such a word. It is widely known that BF aspires for the Presidency, although there is nothing official yet from his side, but people, including his political nemesis believe that he is, in fact preparing for the 2010 Presidential elections.

As an ordinary citizen, I sincerely believe BF should not vie for the Presidential post, not this time. It is already a crowded place with VP de Castro, Mar Roxas, Villar, probably Legarda, perhaps even Jun Lozada among others, already in the footing.

BF should settle for the Vice Presidency, he is one of the best bets for that position. And he should stay away with those posters and pictures of him littering around EDSA. People now are smarter, and he should maintain his reputation being a doer, and a no-nonsense disciplinarian on the streets of Manila. Filipinos need discipline even more to progress, to be more competitive.

It is worth knowing that Filipinos are the most abiding people in Singapore, and even in most other countries. Perhaps one cannot afford to mess with the law there. Smoking in public, or chewing bubblegum, or spitting and littering, even eating and drinking on public transport like the MRT - penalties are more than what most Singaporeans earn in a month! Ranging from 2000 - 5000 Singapore dollars penalty fines, no wonder no one dares to litter, to smoke in public, or jaywalking.

There was NOISE and then… SILENCE

A few weeks back, Metro Manila streets were filled of all sorts of protest rallies, even the Internet is filled with love-hate ramblings against the current President GMA.

And then it happened… the Church suddenly went soft of its stance, the staunchest Archbishop critics backed-off a bit. Lozada was still all over town, but media exposure is noticeably lower than before.

Something must be wrong.

Are people getting tired of all those protests? Or is GMA is much favored by heaven with all her prayer rallies?

Or is it simply that these protests are mainly relying on personalities and that no one in the Opposition is significant enough to carry on the task.

And the former President Cory Aquino is out of the picture now. Will the Opposition die a natural death without her?

Maybe its time our politicians and leaders start a renewed, sincere and pro-active service to the citizenry towards nation building and unity.

Will we have an automated, credible, honest elections in 2010?

Will there be no more Scams, Anomalous Deals and Purchases in the government?

Only time will tell.
